"I'm In Your Backyard"

Last night I was at the annual Night Visions horror-movie festival with my buddy Sheikki. We saw the usual 7 movies in a row through the night in the following order:

THE BOX

The new movie from the "Donnie Darko" director and writer. Weird "thriller" that didn't work that well for me. I liked the music and visuals and all that... but I think the story was quite boring and not surprising in any way, but I still watched the whole thing and it was better than most of the crap that comes out from Hollywood. So... Shakki gives it 3 out of 5! Not good... not bad.

COUNT DRACULA (1970)

Directed by Jess Franco, this movie featured Christopher Lee as Dracula and motherfucking Klaus Kinski as a mental patient called Reinfeld. It also featured Herbert Lom as Van Helsing. Totally mind-blowing performance from Klaus Kinski... he escaped from the mental hospital by ripping the steel bars open with his bare hands and landing a 10 meter drop alive. How can Christopher Lee be so serious? That guy is a master. For acting I give this movie 5 out of 5 but as a movie it gets 1 out of 5. Brilliant!

DEAD SNOW

Norway's gift to cinema Tommy Wirkola brought us this beautiful masterpiece of nazi-zombie slashing horror "comedy". There's really not much I can say about it. Group of friends go into a cabin in the middle of Norway and there are blood thirsty nazi-zombies that have lust for gold. A lot of zombie killing and even few pretty unique kills. Also... if you haven't seen in a movie before when a man amputates his right arm off with a chainsaw... check this movie out! Shakki gives this Scandinavian masterpiece a 4 out of 5! Great job!

THE DESCENT PART 2

I've been avoiding new horror/monster movies... cause they've been sucking pretty much after The Thing and Alien 1. Also I didn't see Descent 1 before this and I was totally surprised! This was a really good monster/horror movie that scared even me few times. It had minor flaws... but I didn't care. The movie had great atmosphere, those fucking monsters still creep me out and it didn't have a happy ending. Nice work! Shakki give this piece of great cinema a 4 out of 5 experience!

HANUMAN THE WHITE MONKEY WARRIOR

Well... in some cases the name says it all. If you like 80's action films like me... then this movie is fucking beautiful. If you don't... well watch it anyway. Amazing piece of cinema which Shakki gives yet again... 4 out of 5!

VAMPIRE GIRL VS. FRANKENSTEIN GIRL

This movie started at 7:15am this morning and after watching all of the above... I was ready to sleep a bit. I did get a glimpse from the beginning, middle and end and for what I saw, this movie rules. 4 out of 5!
