VANHAINKOTI - Recording Diary 010

I found my old dictaphone today. I have 6 tapes full of recordings... from TV, my own experiments with Korg MS-2000, drunken nights with friends and so on. The oldest recordings are from the year 2000 and maybe 5 years after that. So 6 hours of sample material is a good thing to find! Now I have to record them to my computer and then I can start chopping them into my new songs. If there is enough stuff I can even make an album out of the recordings, maybe add sounds here and there. Endless possibilities. The EPs are almost done now... they need some samples and minor editing. The first one will arrive at 4th of March 2010 and 1 on every month after that until July the 4th when the last one arrives. They have turning out to be quite interesting. Weird ambient madness.
In the other news, I joined my workbuddy's band and we've been rocking now twice. 2 song basis in the bank and excitement in the air. It's really hard to focus on playing actual songs with different parts, that's something I haven't done in ages. It's really a good thing to play stuff like that, it gives me totally new perspective on my instrument and hopefully makes me a better player. Music is great, something I'll do until I die some day. Fun!

Miniature Apple Golf

That's me playing miniature apple golf at the cabin area in middle Finland.

Coloring Book
I love the sounds of this great Finnish "Pop" song. The singer Ismo Alanko has been in the Finnish mainstream for many years now, even decades, but I think his songs are really depressing, "weird" and have now moral, which is a good thing of course! You just don't see many artist like that in the top spot of the charts. Finnish people are weird. When somebody goes deeply and honestly into their soul and essence then they are sold. "He/She understands me/us! How is it possible??"
Yes... but those sounds are great! Listen to it, even if you don't know any Finnish.
He sings he colors the coloring book with blood.

5 Best Horror Films
THE THING (1982)
In this horrible age of re-makes, it's good to know actually there was time once when re-makes ruled. This beautiful film of grotesque space mutations came out one year before me and it rules. It makes me wanna puke and cry every time I see it and that's a good thing! Great horror in dark snow land, but not Finland, but almost! It's an inspiration still today.
ALIEN 1979
This piece of amazing movie stuff, is by far one of the scariest things I've ever seen. It is the reason why I hate going into dark cellars. The movie builds about 40min, which is pretty remarkable... Also Sigourney Weaver killing that bastard alien in the end is pretty hot stuff.
Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1978)
What? A space flower comes to earth and turns everybody into robot like killers! Fuck yes. Perfect film which modern film-makers should really learn from. You don't need special effects, you don't need a lot of money, you don't need rap soundtracks. What you need is a great story, mutations and Spock.
The Exorcist (1973)
Fuck me Jesus this is a great movie! Satan goes inside a little girl and turns her loose while the hopeless rookie priest tries to fight it and the whole movie happens inside a house! The best fucking shit ever and scary as Hell. 4 real.
Rosemary's Baby (1968)
Satan. Hair-cut. Neighbors. The best film from Roman Polanski and one the best horror movies ever made.
Of course there is a lot of more great horror/sci-fi horror movies out there... Evil Dead 2, Bad Taste and Sound of Music (Which I've never seen, but from what I've seen I believe it's a horror movie). But those 5 are the ones that will stay with me forever.
Also on a side-note...Lars Von Trier's Riget tv-series is one the best hospital horror ever made.
Horror rules.
The horror.... The horror.

Message To You
Why do I like the Bee Gees? Is it the perfect high-pitch voice? Is it the hair-dues? Is it the sweet sugar love songs? Is it SATAN?
Answer to all those questions is... YES.
I fucking love the Bee Gees, I have always loved them secretly and I understand it now and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
I'm a man.
Wow.

I got interested in Triosk's drummer. He seems like an amazing drummer. He has a band called Pivot on Warp records. Great stuff!

Check it out! It's pretty cool.
Why do I always try to sing that "And IaiaiaiIAIIIIIIaiaiaiiII" part...
Cause it's fun!
Triosk
Oh man... it's always nice to listen to new bands and dig them... but when you get whole list of bands to listen to and you dig them, that's pretty awesome.
I don't know why these bands (Ok, Air I know) have never come to my attention, maybe I suck?
Thanks Ambientstudio!

Flea Rules
And so does Thom Yorke. Just listen how that song builds up to flea's magic fingers.
Cool. I wish I'd been there.
Those Boots
I dedicated this yesterday at a karaoke-bar to the Prime Minister of Finland. He is a crook! Evil bastard. Money freak and a religious nut.

Absinth
Kimmo Pohjonen is one of the best musicians from Finland (at 6:00min Kimmo kills the accordion) and this group that I read about today seems to be pretty goddamn interesting. They are performing live in 2 weeks here in Helsinki. I have to go check them out. I mean... fuck listen to that stuff!
"KTU (pronounced K2) is a progressive/experimental musical supergroup. In 2004 Trey Gunn and Pat Mastelotto started collaborating with Kimmo Pohjonen and Samuli Kosminen, forming KTU out of their respective duos TU and Kluster."

The Museum Of Natural History
Once again we shall feast our ears with beautiful tunes from Madame Blavatsky Overdrive. The best band in the Internets! Listen to THESE amazing tunes of love and gloves. I think this EP and Hidden Masters Under Dead Suns are the best ones yet! But hell... I love them all, cause that's just the way I am.
LISTEN, DOWNLOAD, IT'S FREE!
