Stuff That Ruled In 2011

Holy fucking Jesus of blue fantasy creatures! I'm having a horrible John Mcclane style hangover! What is that? You may wonder... well watch Die Hard III! Divorced, looking like shit, people telling you that you look like shit and your day is just about to get worse in most awesome old-school Hollywood Action style! And you will become friends with Samuel L. Jackson! And Jeremy Irons is trying to kill you! Yeah!

This list is in no order and many other great things happened in 2011! Thank you 2011, you ruled.

1. Primus Europe tour and new album!

Well that was a dream come true! I saw my favorite band playing live and even got to meet them and say hi! It was a blast, because I saw Primus last time and it was 1998. Finland is a bit far for many bands that I like. Also they released a new album (Green Naugahyde) that is in my opinion one of the best Primus albums ever! I think it's a different Primus album but it grows on you with every listening time. It has small details in it which you can hear only after hours and hours of obsessed listening.
Favorite song? Lee Van Cleef.

2. Gentle Spirit

Jonathan Wilson's beautiful album Gentle Spirit was one of the best releases of 2011. It is perfectly recorded and mixed. Songs are so good that you forget that you are listening to some guy with a guitar. The songs just take you away from where ever you are. That is a good thing! Great songs and even few of them made me cry when I was feeling depressed.
Favorite song? Desert Raven.

3. Duke Nukem Forever

Well this was a fun one! I waited this game so bad and when it finally came out... it sucked so hard that it is beyond sucking! Why this is my favorite things of 2011? Well now I don't have to wait for that game anymore and hopefully they will make a better one, because I still think Duke is a great character. Hey... I like Die Hard.

4. Beer

Beer rules and will rule forever. I'm not an alcoholic but I love the taste of beer and I also love to get drunk by beer. I can't take any other substances because my mind is weak and it is full with demons that I am afraid! So beer makes me feel good some times. It also makes me think that I can sing in a karaoke and chicks look better! Yeah! Beer. Love it or leave it.

5. School trip to the shores of Estonia

We went filming 3 short-movies to the beautiful coast of Estonia in May. We left in Monday morning and it was the fucking Monday morning that was the Monday morning after that Sunday night when... FINLAND WON THE ICE-HOCKEY WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP! Jesus Christ... I was feeling a bit tired at 6am in the morning, but so was everybody else... We started our trip with a boat trip to Estonia and from there with few cars and a bus to the shores of Estonia. Beautiful times. We were shooting 12 hours a day and on Thursday we had a party. Ruled! I liked it very much and hopefully learned a thing or two about making short movies and being part of the sound-crew.

6. FINLAND VS. SWEDEN

Finland won the fucking ice-hockey world championship! It was so amazing that I yelled straight through out the game. Oh god it was good... before the game they interviewed Swedish players and the Swedish players were so sure that they will win Finland again, like they have won Finland many times before. But they fucking loose 6-1! Finland kicked their yellow ass and send them back to Sweden. The party was awesome (from what I saw from TV)... there were thousands and thousands of people all celebrating and crying and being happy. It was something that Finland had waited for so many years. The first time we won the Ice-Hockey world championship was back in 1995... so it had been a while. Every year you can watch re-runs of that game from TV! Now we have 2 games to watch! Amazing.

7. 2 Months In Berlin

I was 2 months in Berlin during the summer. It was the most amazing trip I've ever been! I've been in many countries and cities in my life and I must say that Berlin is one of my favorite cities. It is huge, it is the art capital of Europe, the beer is cheap, the girls are pretty, the bars and clubs are amazing and so on and so on... There is so much going on in that city that even though I was there for 2 months, I still did nothing but scratch the surface. There is 595 000 people living in Helsinki... there is 3 429 870 people living in Berlin. So maybe you can imagine how I feel when I go to a city like that. It's crazy! Berlin has great restaurants and for a vegetarian (and a meat eater) it's THE CITY to be in. Everything is cheap in Berlin and you can easily rent an apartment there for a small amount of money and live happily. I love that city. Will go back. Yes sir!

8. Bass playing

Relationship with me and my bass has been a bumpy ride through the year of 2011, but as December went on and I was feeling kinda sad for different reasons... then my bass started to talk to me... it said "Matti... don't be sad. Take me on your lap. Play me." and so I did and it made me smile again! I love playing bass! It is and always will be one of the most important things in my life. Thanks bass! You rule.

9. Youtube

As years go on, youtube keeps on growing. It is totally amazing that I can find stuff and watch them that in the 90's would have been very rare stuff to find. Now it doesn't matter that I didn't see the most amazing Sepultura concert when I was younger or the most amazing bass solos and so on... maybe it would have helped in some way, but hell... I'm alive and I can watch that stuff now! Youtube rules. When it started nobody guessed it will be like this.

10. iphone/ipad

I don't want to be a commercial here... but. When I won an ipad from this lottery where you had to just put your name and you can win... nobody wins from those I know! But I won this lottery that was on a Finnish national radio-station and the prize was an ipad. Well I always thought that "Those things can't be so much fun that people tell they are", but was I wrong. The music apps for ipad are fucking amazing. I have a drum machine! A fucking drum machine... jesus. Well then I got myself an iphone and I'm hooked. Sorry. It just is very good to have a device in your bag or in your pocket where you can put the musical idea you have at the same moment! At least to me it is.

Well that's my 2011 list! Happy New Year! And thank you for reading and watching my blog. I started this blog just for fun and I've been doing it ever since. Weird hobby! But I like weird stuff and hobbies too! I love you all. Drink beer.
